Grupo UPA! in the U.S.

Kate Jordan Dance Projects co-hosts Arteproyecto’s youth ensemble, Grupo UPA! Arteproyeco is a professional dance school located in Guatemala City. Kate had the pleasure of guest teaching at the school and creating a concert with Director Andrea S. de De la Fuente in 2009. The talented youth are visiting Washington, DC for the first time to perform, take classes and connect with other youth and professionals passionate about dancing.  Welcome Grupo UPA!

“Unhinged” concert at Kennedy Center Millennium Stage

Kate presents here newest duet, “One Door Opens…”. This concert will also feature premieres by supporting D.C. female choreographers Roxie Doniphan Thomas and Francesca Jandasek “One Door Open” features dancers Kate Jordan & Natalia Mesa accompanied live by an original score from esteemed composer Mark Olivieri (music commissioned by KJDP).

New Collaboration with Jose Ruiz Subauste
June 2012

Kate travels to Lima, Peru for 3 weeks to kick-off on an exciting new collaborative piece between established Peruvian choreographer/dancer/director Jose Ruiz Subauste, Kate Jordan Dance Projects and other interdisciplinary artists. This work-shopping phase will be the first step in the creative process. What do you find interesting, surprising, funny, dangerous ..about ORANGES? Be a part of the process with us by sending your ideas! The piece will premiere in Lima and the U.S in 2013.

ABOUT KATE JORDAN DANCE PROJECTS

Kate Jordan Dance Projects is a contemporary dance company dedicated to the investigation of new work, quality arts education, and international artistic collaborations. The company consists of Artistic Director Kate Jordan, and free-lance artists who join together to form the unique creative team of each project (dancers, musicians, multi-media artists, designers, writers, & more). The company believes in the beauty of live performance, dance in particular, to bring people together, celebrate discovery, and challenge the individual to pursue excellence.  Whether on-stage, teaching classes, making new dances, re-exploring repertory, traveling or other interactions, KJDP’s strives to make rich opportunities possible for all audience members and collaborating artists. Since it’s founding project in May 2009, KJDP has been presented at WHITE WAVE DUMBO DANCE FESTIVAL (NYC), Painted Bride Arts Center (PHILA), Norristown Dance Festival (PHILA), The Torpedo Factory Arts Center (VA), Dance Place (DC), Centro Cultural Miguel Angel Asturias (GUA). The company has also had the pleasure of conducted teaching and choreographic residencies in Guatemala and Peru.

ABOUT KATE JORDAN

Kate is a performer, choreographer and teacher who finds the ability to passionately have theses three loves an essential blessing. She currently dances for Kate Jordan Dance Projects and Karen Reedy Dance. Since moving to DC in 2007, Kate has also worked closely with CityDance2 and BosmaDance as well as performed in projects with Liz Lerman Dance Exchange and Deviated Theatre. Her choreography has been in repertory of CityDance2, Perpetual Motion/Modern Dance Oklahoma, Terpsicore (Peru) presented internationally at the Dance Forms Productions 47th International Choreographer’ Showcase in Guatemala, featured four consecutive times at the Philadelphia Dance Collective showcase at The Painted Bride, as Flash Mob for 2010 Dance Metro/DC Dance is the Answer Week, at the Norristown Dance Festival, the Eureka Dance Festival, commissioned for the “Three Dancers: Silence of Dance Concert” at the Greenberg Theater in Washington, DC and showcased at the 2011 DUMBO DANCE FESTIVAL.

Kate holds an M.F.A. in Dance from the State University of New York at Brockport. In 2009 she also co-founded the Eureka Dance Festival, an organization dedicated to supporting new works by DC-area artists and community engagement in the creative process through mentorship programs and performances. .She currently teaches for CityDance Center at Strathmore, The Washington Ballet, National Cathedral School, and is a teaching artist for Company E and Bowen McCauley Dance.
